Providing faculty and students with mobile devices, and then telling them to go use the new technology in the classroom is a recipe for failure. Lynn University is in its fourth year of a successful iPad Initiative, with over 2500 iPads distributed to faculty and students, over 40 iBooks produced by faculty, and all undergraduate and MBA courses converted over to iTunesU. Careful and deliberate consideration was given to faculty training and development to ensure the mobile devices became an enhancement to the classroom experience. This discussion will center around the faculty considerations, from fostering the initial buy-in, to implementing an entirely different way of teaching and learning.
