Most students come to Muhlenberg College because they seek the experiences possible in a residential liberal arts college. Step onto our campus and you sense the care with which the environment is built and sustained. Here, students engage in curricular and co-curricular activities that challenge them to develop as learners, leaders, and citizens. What is the role of the digital in this intensely residential context? At Muhlenberg, through close collaboration between OIT and the Provost's Office, we aim to shape opportunities that empower students to create a meaningful and vibrant digital presence.
In this presentation, we share our multifaceted approach including:
- Innovating an Online Learning Consortium award-winning 4-day digital learning pre-orientation for incoming first year students;
- Cultivating peer learning in the digital liberal arts through a Digital Learning Assistant program in which trained students provide support and mentoring for peers on digital projects;
- Building a Domain of One's Own initiative, empowering students, faculty, and staff to register their own domain name and associate it with a hosted web space, free of charge while at Muhlenberg.
