Cathy Hubbs became American University's first Chief Information Security Officer in 2007. At American she is responsible for shaping the University's information security strategy, architecture and vision. She partners with IT, Risk Management and Legal Council in the delivery of security compliance and awareness programs including information security policies, procedures and security standards. With the help of her able team risk assessments are performed on new and existing services, identified gaps are discussed and treated as required. She is an active volunteer in organizations that focus on the development of Security Professionals, such as EDUCASE, the local Virginia Information Systems Security Association chapter, and The CSO Executive Network. She is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT).
