The Use of Acoustic Computer Modelling and Auralization to Improve Classroom Acoustics

Auralization allows designers to listen to their space before it is built.Through a combination of 3D computer modeling and audio signal processing, an aural rendering or "Auralization" of a space can be created to show what the space will sound like during a presentation and/or lecture. Auralization can help designers to develop and refine the design of a space, and can be an invaluable communication tool for conveying the effects of different design features, for clarifying design objectives, and for generating agreement and understanding among the many stakeholders in a given project.  Using case studies, this seminar will present the range of variables which affect good classrooms acoustics which modeling an auralizations can address. A review of the ANSI standard for classrooms acoustics will be included in this session.
