CIO Summit: Security in a Borderless Network

Sponsored by:

Join University Business and our sponsor GovConnection at the CIO Summit on June 10 at UBTech 2013, an exclusive, invitation-only gathering of 35 top higher ed CIOs chosen from colleges and universities nationwide. You will benefit from cutting-edge professional development with your fellow CIOs as industry experts explore the latest developments in network and data security. Three insightful presentations will be followed by an interactive roundtable discussion among all participants.

Summit Sessions:

  • Threat Assessment: The New Normal
Providing anywhere, anytime access to the network for everyone on campus is the new normal, but it comes with a new generation of security threats. We’ll address emerging security issues related to the wireless network, including email and web access. We’ll also discuss tactics and policies that CIOs can adopt to assess and address the threats to their networks.
Speaker: Curtis Carver, CIO Board of Regents, University System of Georgia

  • BYOD: Simplifying Management Without Sacrificing Security and Control
The higher-ed CIO must accommodate students, employees, contractors and visitors who expect to connect to the network with any kind and number of personal devices. The consequent infrastructure demands and security risks don’t have to be overwhelming. We’ll examine how an integrated architectural strategy can allow campus IT departments to manage the BYOD phenomenon without giving up control of their network.
Speaker: Paul Cardinal, Business Development Manager, GovConnection
  • Securing Data: Considerations Beyond the Cloud
Transforming the data center to a virtualized and private cloud environment is one of the biggest trends in IT today.  Securing the physical Data Center, Virtual Data Center and Cloud Resources  in this architectural evolution can create new security concerns. We’ll look at the move to adding Security services to these architectures, with an eye to identifying and addressing the new types of security risks and important solutions that come with this trend.
Speaker: Tim Ryan, Security Consulting Systems Engineer, US Public Sector, Cisco Systems, Inc.

  • Interactive Roundtable: Peer Discussion and Learning
In this session, the attendees are the expert speakers, sharing ideas, best practices and lessons learned in the realm of security in a borderless network.
